Gossamer Albatross release New EP
Gossamer Albatross release their new EP - by InSITE Culture Reporter Sean Wyer
Gossamer Albatross describe their EP as 'probably the most beautiful music Hereford has ever produced', and there's no question that they are certainly up there.
Their music is wonderfully composed and equally well performed. Gossamer Albatross combine an efficacious selection of musicians and instruments with their own innovative style to produce their melodramatic tunes.
The EP itself conveys numerous contrasting feelings, resulting in ambient yet enticing aura.
The EP itself conveys numerous contrasting feelings, resulting in ambient yet enticing aura. The range of techniques and moods displayed in the 4 tracks of the EP is very effective, because it ensures that the music is continuously surprising, as opposed to being much the same the entire way through.
Without fail, each piece is immaculately assembled, and Lewis' subtle, soft voice lends edge to his perceptive lyrics. Although somewhat traditional in choice of medium, with key features including cello and violin, the band's artful approach to their music makes it progressive and fresh, while not detaching themselves from the folk genre.
The release itself was equally as innovative, a 'launch party' at Oxfam bookstore in Hereford, where a marvellous live performance by Gossamer was supported by Sam Isaac and special guest 'Line and a Dot'. The successful event marked the release of a very satisfying EP indeed, and if you can't wait until the next one, Gossamer Albatross are performing around and about the area in the upcoming months.
Gossamer Albatros are: Lewis Gordon (vocals, guitars), Reuben Brunt (violin), Geena Pellant (cello, piano)
