Staring Through the Glass

one

Words by Hannah Packwood, image by Myles Gough

Staring through the glass, the outside world enthrals my soul, but is like a haunting phantom of the night.
At once scattering ink becomes my page,
The luminous sky now overwhelms my innocent mind, my innocent being.
I can see this unique and genuine world;
but I can only long to be a part of it.
Trees scatter incandescent sparkles from the sky, allowing the light freedom in the depths of the undergrowth.
Everything reflected superbly against the shadow of the shimmering silver deity.

Staring through the glass once more a backwards view of myself is shown to me;
The wall can tell the tale, as can the glass and the ground beneath my feet;
However, it is only an obscured illusion of the reality.

The figure is lifting all of my movements, emphasising every stir and rising to the challenge of being an exact replica.
Like the echo who gains power then slowly fades away.
The multiple visions envisage the trees which create the gateway to higher powers, allowing one to see all the precious and precise natures of outer truth.

Staring through the glass my mind divulges itself further and further into the slovenly yet agile night that I am facing.
This world has no fear; everything is revolutionary in this mysterious land of the night.

Nothing is still but there is an ethereal yet enchanting ambience filling the air. I am not frightened yet I feel the intimidation from the vastness of the unexplained world.
We can find all these hidden treasures, but not even books, or people, or emotions can truly explain the inexperienced.
This place of the night is ‘out of this world’, there are always others present and the spirit of life lives on.
It blinds our eyes with light that is aspiring ambiguity, just longing to be explored.

Staring through the glass,
I will always be able to distinguish this desirable world,
Even as the Sun rises and a new deity is born and the shadows and reflections of reality are gone
I will still dream of this place. Longing for my escape once more.
