How to describe a tree

How to describe a tree is a very difficult task,
For which tree are you describing?
And in what season does it stand.
A friend of mine she is simple, She does not ask questions like these,
But when she is questioned with such a thing, She calls for help,
And all the people of the world come running to her aid,
They don't all come with an answer, And those that don't,
They come just that they can see her, Because in the middle of the night,
She could have called, And the sun would have risen to see her,
The moon would have come up to see her,
And the flowers would have opened up to see her,
Just to see her smile, Just to see you smile.

In loving memory of Jen Pollock.

My Girl

My Girl

She wakes up,
A late night out with the girls
Her makeup
Is faded and her mascara
Black smudges
Her tired eyes
Her perfume
Mingled with the smell of smoke
Spilt drink
And sweat
Smothers her body and
Her pyjamas
Hang from her frail
Weak
Exhausted body
Hanging over
Her hung
Over
The door
She leans on
As she looks out of the window
And I watch her.

She walks over
Slowly
Rubbing her eyes
She mumbles something
Inaudible
It might have been.

"Good morning"
I say
As she sits down on my lap
And curls up close
Like a baby
Might lie limp in your arms
As you support
Her head
On my shoulder
Her arms tucked in as I wrap
My arms around her
As I hold her
I rock her.

I kiss her forehead
And know
That she is mine
That the events of last night
Don't have to be remembered
Don't have to be discussed
Because a night out with the girls

For my girl
Means thinking
And testing
Wondering
How long she can hold back
Not to touch the glass
Facing her fears
Because it's not always fun
And you can't drink your sorrows
Away
The next day
They're still there
Drive her car to the next pub
Sits down on the bar stool
And orders
Her first vodka shot
Until her friend
Drags her home
Refuses to let her drive
And walks her the mile back
To our
Apartment
Where I clean up
Her
Act
Like it's all ok
And she cries
Because she's let down the side
And I hold her
Like I hold her now
And I tell her
That I'll pull her through
That she'll pull through
Because she's strong
And although she's never been a runner,
She's a fighter,
And she's not a loser.
