Get Actively Involved in World Poverty Day!

one

Hereford based international development charity, Concern Universal, need you to help them mark this year’s World Poverty Day on Friday 17 October!

With a billion people around the world living off less than $1 a day and 25,000 people dying from hunger or hunger-related causes every day, get actively involved to help towards the eradication of this poverty!

Already lots of people are getting involved in World Poverty Day activities, including Pete Bedwell and his friends who are longboarding 60 miles, to also mark the 60th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights, and raising valuable funds for the local charity. Pete says "I have been donating a little money each month to Concern Universal for a while now (and am going to continue doing so when I start uni in October) because I believe in and want to support the work they do. By doing this World Poverty Day challenge I can give a little more. I love longboarding, and if I can combine that with raising some money to help fight poverty, then all the better. Concern Universal provide the means to better people's lives and their families futures. They fight the good fight."

"Our vision is a world where justice dignity and respect prevail for all." Jackie Broatch, Events Co-ordinator

The Leadership Trust, near Ross-on-Wye, still have places available on their 6.5 mile Goodrich Hill Race near Symonds Yat that is on Sunday 19th October, and on the same day a Concern Universal team is also running the Cardiff Half Marathon!

However, we still need more people to get involved! Whatever your sport or activity, whether it be swimming, rowing, cycling, or knitting, choose a challenge (60 miles, 60 laps, 60 minutes, or 60 people!...), get fundraising and get active!

For more information of how to get involved, or for a fundraising pack, call Jackie on 01432 355 111 or email jackie.broatch@concern-universal.org

“I’m here to facilitate and help people raise funds, from international challenge events such as climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to local events like sky-diving. We also want to do a ‘Herefords got talent’ event too!” says Jackie Broatch, Events Co-ordinator

Concern Universal has been awarded the 2008 Charity of the Year, International Aid and Development Category

Last year donations Concern Universal received helped provide 61,500 people in Malawi with new, clean water sources, and 78.4 tonnes of local produce in The Gambia were sold to tourist hotels and restaurants returning over £25, 152 of income to local Gambian farmers, to name just a few of the charity’s successes!
