Fallout Theory

InSITE reporter Jade Rumball reviews three bands from the local music scene

We’re well into 2009 and the music scene is bigger and better than ever before. We’re talking japan, music and the rock star lifestyle with The Fallout Theory, the musical genius band from Malvern. Stephen Battelle tells us about the success and life in the band Lost Alone and we talk adoring fans and brazil with Riotnoise.

The Fallout Theory

First, we interviewed The Fallout Theory, indie alternative giants from Malvern. We asked them about who they would thank for the amazing success of the Fallout Theory, and they simply answered ' I guess everyone who's ever taken the time to listen to what we do and actually followed us. Without anyone checking us out we wouldn’t have been able to achieve anything.' The fallout theory are a 5 piece band who formed at high school, they were all friends and just got together and wrote stuff. Their advice to wannabe rock stars is 'Live the dream and don't give up!' We then asked them if they could tour anywhere in the world where would they choose and why would they want to tour there? “Japan, cos’ its 'all mental out there and everyone’s happy”. When asked what life would be like without the band they said “Pretty boring I should imagine, at least doing this we get to see a lot of towns/cities in this country and even got the chance to go and gig in brazil”. This band is one of a kind and proves that to be successful all you need are determined band members, great music and a strong fan base.

Lost Alone

Lost Alone

Next up, we interviewed Steven Battelle, Guitarist and vocalist for Lost Alone who have played with huge bands and toured almost every place you could think of! When we asked him to sum up their music for people who haven't yet listened to it, Steven replied “A love letter to a language of the past. I love being biblical and the feeling you get when your spine tingles from rock acceleration!”

Lost Alone are a 3 piece band consisting of: Tom Kitchen : Bass + Vocals Steven Battelle : Guitar + vocals Mark Gibson : Drummer + Vocals

They are very successful and already well known within the music industry. We asked Steven how they all got so far and he replied “Its been a steady, and still is, a continual climb. Just by playing writing and generally having 100% commitment to the band” You can download their tracks from iTunes, and Steven says “The fact that people from all over the world can get hold of our music so easily is an amazing feeling!”

We were interested in Lost Alone music videos so we asked him for more info. “We have made 4 music videos for our first album. My favourite was for 'Unleash the Sands of all Time' - We had to walk around the streets of our home town and I had to sing in front of loads of people just walking around on a Friday night - It was real fun and looked great!”

Riotnoise

Last but certainly not least we interview unsigned rockers Riotnoise. Don’t be put off by the fact that they’re unsigned, they have enough talent to be signed by about 101 different record labels. Riotnoise were the main act at Music Live 2008 at the Birmingham NEC and they have their own music video. They've also visited brazil and played there. All this for an unsigned band is pretty amazing! Here's their advice “Never turn down a gig, rehearse all the time, listen to criticisms, be willing to put in all of your free time, work as a group towards the same goal”

So how did they get so huge without a label? 'Well we certainly aren't huge, but we have worked very hard to try and build a fanbase. ”Obviously the internet plays a huge part in being able to reach potential fans and to keep in touch with existing fans. It takes loads of time and effort but we all personally look after our web pages so that we can keep in touch with people that like our music”

“We are very lucky that event organisers and promoters recognise that we have a greater appeal than some would think. The guys at Music Live took a gamble on us back in November and let us take the opening slot at The NEC - and it turns out that we may have had the best reception from the crowd. We made loads of new fans on that day and those guys are still in touch with us now - we can't wait to share the new EP with them. We also played our first ever acoustic set on the Kerrang Radio stand that day and that resulted in what was apparently the longest photo/autograph session of the whole day!“

“We know that there is an audience out there for our music and that music fans of all ages from early teens up to the old classic rockers genuinely enjoy listening to our music and watching us perform live”

“We hope that the fanbase will continue to grow throughout the year. A lot of it just comes down to how much the fans spread the word”

So there we have it. 3 brilliant bands, 3 stories of how they made fame and 3 groups proving you can get somewhere in the music industry so long as you have the commitment.
