Make Music, Raise Money, Change Lives - Oxjam Hereford

one

Oxjam Hereford Music Festival on Sunday 25th October

We are Samantha Turvey and Hannah Stewart (both 22) and we came across the idea of putting on an Oxjam gig by chance after finding an online job advert for regional organisers. We have both just graduated from university and were looking for interesting things to do. We liked the sound of organising a music event in Hereford as we thought it would give us an opportunity to get back into our local music scene, meet up with old friends and makes some new ones as well as raising money for a good cause.

Oxjam takes places every October, there are bigger events organised for larger cities but we thought it would be great to hold one in Hereford. We managed to secure The Jailhouse as a venue and five awesome acts; Hereford based acts Nicholas Stevenson and The Candidates, Nomad 67 from Worcestershire and from over the boarder we have The Kryptics (Llanidloes) and Who Saw Who (Aberystwyth).

Not only will we be providing great live music but there will also be an opportunity to learn more about Oxfam’s latest campaign ‘Here and Now’. The aim of this campaign is to highlight the effect that climate change will have on human populations around the world and the disproportional effect it will have on those already living in poverty. This campaign coincides with a meeting of world leaders in Copenhagen this December to discuss the action required. The Oxfam message is to ‘demand action until you’re blue in the face’ so at festivals and other events throughout the year they have been painting faces blue, we intend to do the same at Oxjam Hereford!
